Notes on finding accommodation in Florence:

Look for apartments rather than hotel accommodation – apartments are usually more comfortable, spacious and economical for a longer stay. Often rental for 1 month costs just a little more than 2 weeks.

    Helpful tips:

Price range, calculate price with this link http://www.ozforex.com.au/cgi-bin/currency-converter.asp

What floor, is there an elevator?

Hillside, unless you like very steep hills don’t look at anything that says Hillside

Areas: Historic Centre, Duomo, Santa Croce, Ponte Vecchio and Santa Spirito (if you like hills)

Il Bisonte is situated in the Oltrarno – other side of the Arno. http://www.ilbisonte.it/where.htm

10 -15 minute walk from The Uffizi and Piazza Della Signoria, 10 minutes from Santa Croce.

    Put the words “apartment, rental, Florence” into Google and see what the various sites have on offer. Click on the following link;

Last year we rented an apartment from Carole Milligan at Milligan & Milligan. http://www.italy-rentals.com/eng/index1.htm

Notes on Aquileia Weekend Trip Opportunity

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aquileia

There will be an opportunity to visit the ancient Roman city of Aquileia with Robin and Annie one weekend, leaving on a Friday evening and returning on Sunday night. Possibly 1st – 3rd October.

It is the main archeological site in Northern Italy and it boasts a museum housing an incredible collection of antiquities from glass to huge statuary and mosaics. In 1031, the new basilica was rebuilt on the ruins of the first, parts date back to 4th century. There is also a 5th century Christian basilica, today it houses the Paleo-Christian Museum. We take a bus trip to Grado which is 6kms distant, like a mini Venice set in it’s own lagoon.

NOTE: This trip to be paid for by the student. Accommodation at the Hotel Patriarchi http://www.hotelpatriarchi.it is very reasonable and half board includes 2 meals a day. We will book this when we know how many are participating and if that weekend suits everyone.

Read about our NEW ‘Bring a friend” discount for the Florence workshop 21 September – 6 October 2010

There are still a few places left in our class this year and we are offering a ‘bring a friend’ discount.

When two or more friends book at the same time for our Florence workshop they receive a discount of $300 each!! It’s a great offer so if you are thinking of joining us, book now to avoid disappointment.

Whether you are a newcomer to art and printmaking or an experienced artist, you will have the hands-on attention of two teachers, Annie & Robin, at our Florence workshop to guide you step by step through the various methods to produce your own successful Waterless Lithographs and Collagraphs.

We show you how to create your own sensational prints. Have a look at our student’s work, some had never had any experience with drawing or printmaking. We also plan to make an “exchange” of small prints, 12.5 x 12.5cm,5” X 5”, and swap them amongst each other ensuring we have some lasting mementos of our fellow participants and our inspiring time in Italy.

September is splendid in Florence. The weather is so comfortable after the stifling heat of high summer. We found walking to be one of the joys in this lovely city, especially in the evening with many of the streets
closed to traffic in the Centro Storico, Historic Centre. Just imagine strolling after a concert at a beautiful old church enjoying the best gelato you have ever tasted – this happened to us several times last year!!

We can show you where these free concerts are located. Florence has so many delights on offer, culture going back centuries and wonderful galleries and museums.

You will find fabulous shopping for a variety of goods including Florentine leather and handbags in the gorgeous shops or the street markets. Our favourite bag shop is hidden away near the market – the owner’s father previously worked for one of the top designers and in retirement keeps his hand in by creating lovely bags for his son’s shop.

Sienna, San Gimignano and Pisa are a just bus ride away and Venice is a great destination for a weekend.

The sun kissed wines and culinary delicacies of Tuscany are waiting to be savoured whether you are catering for yourself with delicious produce from the market or dining out. The produce market is sensational, we eat at the same place as the market workers and buy deli items like incredible cheeses, prosciutto, wonderful “rustic” bread and fresh food from the nearby farms.

Come and immerse yourself in the cultural splendour of this great city while attending classes and be assured of taking home a portfolio of inspired prints.

Promise yourself a holiday with a difference.
